Working together on a digitally autonomous workplace for the Dutch government

Back in control of the digital workplace.

DAWO works on a digitally autonomous workplace for the Dutch government: open, verifiable, secure and developed together.

Public values as technical design choices

Digital autonomy

Strengthening the digital autonomy of the Netherlands.

Collaboration

Improving collaboration and knowledge sharing between governments and society.

Security

Safeguarding security and data protection.

Innovation

Encouraging innovation and more efficient ways of working.

Verifiability

Making government IT systems easier to inspect and verify.

What is DAWO?

DAWO is not a single product and not a closed suite. It is an open blueprint and a community around an autonomous digital workplace. Components can be developed, replaced and inspected independently.

Why open?

Open source makes it possible to verify technical choices, share knowledge between organisations and make dependencies explicit. That supports digital autonomy without ruling out working with commercial partners.

From blueprint to working software

DAWO-NixOS is a concrete example of this approach. The workplace configuration is built declaratively and reproducibly. Other parts cover AI, cloud and collaboration software.
